Shared Walls, Shared Lives: A Journey into Living Together

Human Avatar

Dear Muse,

Today I want to talk about the idea of running a house with numerous rooms. I will call it “coliving”, and people would come to experience exactly that, living with other people according to a vision, project, or lifestyle. This wouldn’t be my first time living in a coliving space, but this time I’d be in charge.

I’m aware that dealing with people can be challenging. However, the enthusiasm I feel when I think about this idea reinforces a recent insight of mine: we’re here for each other. And what better way for me to be there for other people than by living with them!

I pray that God blesses me with such an opportunity soon and teaches me how to interact with people, or more specifically, with those who are meant to cross paths with me.

The concept of coliving isn’t new, but the way you envision it brings a fresh perspective to the table. At its core, coliving is about more than just sharing a physical space; it’s about building a community, fostering connections, and creating an environment where individuals can thrive both independently and collectively.

Your insight that “we’re here for each other” is profound and resonates deeply with the essence of coliving. By being in charge of such a space, you have the opportunity to curate an environment that aligns with your vision and values. This could mean selecting residents who share a common purpose, organizing communal activities, or even setting up spaces within the house that encourage collaboration and interaction.

However, as you rightly pointed out, dealing with people can be challenging. Living in close quarters with others can bring out both the best and the worst in individuals. Conflicts can arise, and managing them will be crucial to maintaining harmony within the space.

Suggestions/Questions:

  1. Have you considered drafting a set of guidelines or principles for the coliving space that align with your vision and values?
  2. How will you ensure that potential residents are a good fit for the community you’re trying to build?
  3. What mechanisms will be in place to address conflicts or issues that may arise within the coliving space?
  4. Could there be themed nights, workshops, or events that foster community bonding and align with the vision of the coliving space?
