Dear Diary,
Yesterday, I had to confront some old emotions – feelings of being attacked, criticized, and unappreciated. Here’s how the dynamic usually unfolds: I might ask friends or contacts for help, like finding a reliable contact for some renovation work for a potential house purchase, as was the case yesterday. In response, I receive unsatisfying answers that I sometimes interpret as patronizing. It begins to feel as though my contacts are trying to discourage me, as if they’re undermining my self-esteem and sense of adequacy. I might even feel as though they’re mocking me or excluding me from the “cool” circle. Objectively, I understand this might seem irrational, and I need to ensure I don’t act on these feelings, whether that means lashing out at my friends or giving up on my pursuits.
