Dear Diary,
These days, I’ve developed a crush on my friend and coworker. While I don’t take it too seriously—she’s much younger than me, and the situation could easily turn into a cliché of an older man pursuing a much younger woman—I still find value in the experience. For starters, I’ve managed to acknowledge my crush without enduring the usual excruciating pain that often accompanies such feelings. In a way, I find it reassuring that I still possess the capacity to fall in love.
A perhaps wiser part of me encourages me to embrace love, regardless of the outcome. In this perspective, love itself becomes my lesson, my class, my school. So, I can love her quietly, letting my affection flow without constraint. “All love is the love of God,” I’ve learned, which suggests that love can never be wrong if it grants freedom rather than imposing restrictions. Love, and in some form or fashion, that love will return to you, or so this wiser part of me seems to suggest. “Amor, ch’a nullo amato amar perdona,” or simply, “love begets love.”
