Dear Diary,
Yesterday a friend was complaining to me about how she’s been treated by a group of friends I left almost a year ago. At some point, I lost my cool. She was venting to me, seeking attention or perhaps the validation she didn’t find among those same people. What bothered me was that she didn’t seem to consider my feelings: I too felt betrayed by those “friends,” but here she was, focused solely on her own troubles. This incident maybe reignited my old frustrations—the feeling that I was treated in a most ungrateful manner and ended up feeling betrayed.
However, there are alternative perspectives on both matters:
- I had to leave that group of friends probably because my path took a different turn; no betrayal may have actually been involved.
- As for my friend, it seems she’s becoming attached to me in a way that I’m not interested in reciprocating.
So it’s possible that my burst of anger was signaling that I need to keep some distance from this friend, as she might want a kind of relationship from me that I can’t provide.
