Dear Diary,
Today I went to my second session with my new psychotherapist, and there is probably more to unpack than I can remember. But I’ll do my best in this entry to sum up the most important things.
Dealing with the part of me that seems never satisfied with what I’ve done, it turns out I might have taken charge, when I was a small child, of an issue that was my mother’s in the first place. Children are creatures with a huge potential for love. Out of love, I took charge of that issue because I must have seen my mother couldn’t handle it herself, and I must have felt I could do it. As I’m writing this, it seems incredible, yet in the session, it made total sense. I felt the incredible energy of my inner child, felt that energy lost, and that’s what lies beneath the issue I need to work on right now.
“I don’t need to prove anything to anybody.” That seems to be the magic formula I should repeat whenever that voice emerges, telling me I haven’t done enough by its standards. That battle is no longer mine. I don’t need to be more than anybody else, but most importantly, I don’t need to prove it. How will this change my mindset and thus my life? That’s what I’m curious to see and excited to find out!
